Job Description

Amazon Game Studios is seeking a Narrative Designer to join our team in sunny Irvine, CA. This designer will work with our Design Director to tell gripping tales of Middle-earth, its history, and its peoples, building world settings, lore, in-game stories, and cinematics for Amazon's upcoming massively multiplayer The Lord of the Rings game.
We aspire to tell all-new stories inside a beloved, highly-detailed IP. A successful candidate will have deep familiarity with the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, as well as a career history of creating memorable characters and story arcs in video games.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
* Write backstory documents describing the world's places and inhabitants both old and new, all consistent with Tolkien's work.
* Write compelling character biographies, story arcs, and dialog.
* Write location, character, and item descriptions that add texture and depth to the world.
* Write economical voice-over scripts and catchphrases that capture the essence of characters and hold up to repetition.
* Collaborate with designers and artists to build locations, cutscenes, quests, and in-game dialog that tell coherent, emotionally powerful stories.
* Thrive on early development ambiguity and definitively establish best practices and pipeline for narrative design.
* Work with the Marketing and Community teams to deliver high quality copy for the web and print.
* Work with all departments on the scheduling and integration of the narrative design, as well as associated game feature development, goals, and execution.
* Champion the game's story across our studio, ensuring consistency with and respect for the works of J.R.R. Tolkien.Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in English, Fine Arts, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
* 3+ years of professional experience as a Narrative Designer, Writer, or related occupation.
* 1+ years of feature development for a "live" game or game service.
* A portfolio that demonstrates process and capabilities in crafting compelling game narratives, which includes published work.
