The Senior Research Contracts Specialist is responsible for providing expert and timely support for the development, execution and maintenance of agreements related to areas of a biotechnology company including research, development, and technical operations conducted by or on behalf of Spark Therapeutics. The role will work closely with research and development, intellectual property, technical operations, business development, and other groups to support the preparation, review, negotiation and administration of contracts to ensure that the interests of the company are anticipated and protected within the requirements of the law and company policies. The role is responsible for identifying and delivering training related to these agreements.

The role supports the contract management system and is responsible for ensuring that contracts are maintained and monitored in the system.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

90%

  • Independently draft, evaluate, negotiate, and review agreements related to research and development, technical operations and business development, including master service agreements, consulting agreements, sponsored research agreements, and material transfer agreements.
  • Develop and modify contracts, templates, policies, and processes related to research agreements to support the protection of company interests in a consistent and effective way.
  • Support the contract review process for agreements (e.g., intake, distribute to reviewer, track status, collect and store executed copies, etc.) for Legal Department.
  • Support the contract management system as it applies to agreements to ensure that these agreements are maintained and monitored in the system.
  • Provide general contract support as may be required.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field and/or paralegal certificate required.
  • Minimum of (5) years of experience working within a law firm or in-house legal department on agreements.
  • Experience with licenses, supply and services agreements a plus.
  • Biotech and/or intellectual property experience a plus.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Skilled in drafting, reviewing, modifying and negotiating research, technical and other general categories of agreements.
  • Experience administering projects and processes.
  • Skilled in time management and organization with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize tasks and manage a varied workload.
  • Proactive and able to function effectively and independently in an environment of rapidly changing demands.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and able to apply critical thinking to projects.
  • Ability to effectively work with research and medical clients to understand their needs and efficiently support contract development and execution.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products and document management software.
  • Experience in training client groups in contract processes and terms
