Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY:


Leads the location (s) in various health/safety and environmental practices and programs designed to safeguard all employees in a working environment which is conducive to their well-being; Recommends and spearheads specific actions to assure that the plant complies with all federal, state, provincial and local laws related to the health/safety and environmental;

Administers the plant's risk management program which is designed to minimize physical and financial exposure resulting from potential, alleged or actual on-the-job injuries

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Becomes thoroughly familiar with and recommends action to keep the plant in compliance with OSHA and other federal, state and local, and provincial health/safety and environmental laws
  • Apprises the Plant Manager and Human Resource Manager of all safety related problems
  • Directs and serves as Advisor to the Plant Safety Committee.
  • Conducts or assists in plant 5S and safety inspections.
  • Coordinates corrective action programs relative to health/safety and environmental.
  • Orientates new employees and conducts ongoing training for current employees
  • Assists in accident investigations and ensures that proper reports are completed.

  • Makes corrective action recommendations to Human Resources Manager.
  • Schedules, monitors, and recommends action based on pre-employment, return-to-work and periodic physical examinations.
  • Establishes, maintains, staffs and stocks the plant's first aid facility. Provides first aid treatment for on-the-job illnesses or injuries when present. Ensures that properly trained employees are available to render first aid on other shifts. Maintains first aid treatment records, reports, and standing orders.
  • Purchases, distributes, and monitors the use and assures the operability of safety medical supplies and equipment.
  • Establishes and maintains confidential employee medical, workers' compensation and health insurance records/files
  • Remains apprised of the latest health/safety and environmental procedures and equipment by membership in appropriate organization(s), attendance at pertinent seminars, and reading professional journals
  • Prepares/maintains a safety policy and procedure manual and standing orders
  • Coordinates wellness programs
  • Provides information for monthly measurables
  • Communicates with and assists the plants Workers' Compensation Third Party Administrator in the investigation and administration of workers' compensation claims
  • Serves as the company liaison to retained physician, schedules physical examinations, and develops medical reports for work related illnesses or injuries
  • Coordinates the processing and payment of all indemnity lost time claims under workers' compensation through the Workers' Compensation Third Party Administrator
  • Maintains contact with all employees absent from work with job related conditions
  • Identifies and offers modified, alternate or rehab duty as appropriate
  • Coordinates the Work Conditioning program and Restriction Placement Programs
  • Maintains reports and analyzes information relative to workers' compensation costs so as to minimize costs and properly administer the plans' Penalty and Refund Adjustment Program where applicable.
  • Performs a review with the Plant Controller of the plant workers' compensation loss reports. Reviews discrepancies with the plants' workers' compensation claims administrator
  • Coordinates and chairs monthly case management reviews with Plant Manager, Human Resource Manager and Plant Controller
  • Responsible for obtaining, maintaining and updating the Bridgewater Interiors/ Adient Health/Safety and Environmental Manual and all policies in it for the facility.
  • Maintains Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and policies relating to this program
  • Recommends specific annual health/safety and environmental objectives for the plant
  • Interfaces with the company's Regional Health/Safety and Environmental Manager
  • Interfaces with the company's Regional Ergonomics Engineer
  • Coordinates duties, training and education of Plant Health /Safety and Environmental Committees
  • Any and all other tasks assigned by Plant Manager or Human Resource Manager

    Duties also include assisting in the day-to-day management of the Environmental Management System. Following all environmental work instruction and / or cleaning up spills or other duties required of the Environmental 1st Response Team.

  • Authority and responsibility to stop the production line should a safety or quality issue appear
  • Actively participates in Health/Safety/Environmental investigations and the 8D process in order to develop root cause analysis for problem resolution as required.
  • Ensure required Health/Safety and Environmental Audits are complete for you and your team.
  • Reporting accidents, occupational illnesses, and HSE&E emergencies, and inform supervisor of known HSE&E conditions which could adversely affect other team members, assets or to the public.
  • Ensures compliance with all health/safety and environmental procedures and ensures safe working procedures in assigned production areas.

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

    Reports directly to the Plant Manager

    EDUCATION REQUIRED & PREFERRED:

    Degree in Health/Safety, industrial hygiene or a related specialty preferred or 10 years related job experience.

    Certification in specialty preferred.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIRED & PREFERRED:

    Three to five years in industrial safety preferably coupled with industrial health care experience.

    POST HIRE TRAINING REQUIRED:

    OSHA Record Keeping

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

    REASONING ABILITY:

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Must be computer literate and familiar with appropriate software programs. Ability to create visual aids for communication purposes. PC based software knowledge must include word-processing, spreadsheet and email based systems.
