What You'll Do:

  • Assists with the preparation of the Company's quarterly income tax provisions in accordance with the rules governing accounting for income taxes (ASC 740). Examples of activities to be performed include:

    • Gathering of tax sensitive data, compilation and consolidation of the data gathered from various corporate and division accounting/finance personnel to calculate permanent and temporary book to tax differences;

    • Querying/consolidating the relevant data from Longview and Oracle to calculate permanent and temporary book to tax differences;

    • Managing the calculation of depreciation for income tax purposes in Oracle;

    • Assisting with preparation and recording of the federal, state and foreign income tax provisions using OneSource Tax Provision;

    • An ability to comprehend the various pieces that make up the Company's current, deferred and total income tax provisions such that new ledger accounts or late changes in the close process can be considered for any income tax provision impacts;

    • Preparation and recording of the quarterly calculations for uncertain tax positions and related documentation;

    • Assisting with preparing documentation related to the realizability of the Company's deferred tax assets;

    • Assisting with preparation and recording of the detailed "prove out" of the Company's current and deferred income tax accounts on an annual basis;

    • Assisting with the preparation of quarterly and year end income tax disclosures for financial reporting purposes; and

    • Assisting with maintenance of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) 404 documentation.

  • Assists with preparation of multi-year income tax projections to be used in the Company's strategic planning.

  • Along with other members of the Income Tax Reporting team, provides assistance to EY in the preparation and timely filing of the Company's required federal and state income/franchise tax returns (approximately 125 tax returns), including the U.S. reporting of the Company's international operations. Examples of activities to be performed include:

    • Compiling and validating the income/franchise tax return data received from corporate and division personnel;

    • Finalizing the income tax return computation of the Company's statutory depletion deduction (statutory depletion deduction is the Company's most significant permanent benefit);

    • Reviewing the federal and/or state income/franchise tax returns prepared by EY;

    • Researching and/or validating explanations for any significant return to provision differences; and

    • Assisting with recording the current and deferred income tax impacts associated with return to provision differences.

  • Assists the Director, Income Tax Planning and Exams with income or franchise tax research, risk mitigation and planning issues. Stays informed of new developments in income and franchise tax matters and the Company's accounting practices. Assists in the identification of, and accounting for, permanent and temporary book to tax differences that arise from income or franchise tax planning opportunities.

  • Assists the Director, income Tax Planning and Exams with information gathering related to federal and/or state tax examination information requests. This includes:

    • Responding to any federal or state income/ franchise tax notices.

    • Gathering support for information document requests for federal or state income/franchise tax audits.

  • On occasion, assists the Manager, Indirect Tax with special projects related to property, sales and use or other indirect taxes.

Qualifications

Skills You'll Need:

Education. Must have a BS Degree in accounting or finance and CPA certification and/or advanced degree preferred.

Experience. Should have at 2 to 4 years of public and/or corporate income/franchise tax experience. Be proficient at querying/consolidating information from accounting systems such as Longview or Oracle.

Interpersonal Skills. Must have the ability to effectively and tactfully communicate with personnel at all levels inside and outside of the company, including other finance and accounting personnel, outside accounting/tax advisors, and legal counsel. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Functional Knowledge. An ability to master, in time, all of the relevant income tax accounting concepts included in ASC 740. Preferred experience includes:.

  • Experience preparing or reviewing income tax provisions and other tax accounting functions. Additionally, experience preparing or reviewing income tax provisions in OneSource Tax Provision is an added plus.

  • Experience preparing and/or reviewing federal and/or state income/franchise tax returns.

  • Experience manipulating and reviewing large amounts of data in analytics platforms like Tableau.


Analytical Skills. Must have excellent analytical and problem solving capabilities with special attention to accuracy and detail.

Time Management Skills. Must have the ability to prioritize tasks in high volume situations. Must be a self-starter with proven ability to take ownership of job responsibilities.
