Description

As a member of the School of Engineering, the mechanical engineering instructor will work with department faculty to develop new curriculum centered around program assessments in alignment with ABET accreditation standards. This faculty member will be vital in the specification and organization of equipment and curriculum used in the engineering mechanics laboratory. The goal is to create an environment in which students can accomplish the learning objectives of the course of instruction. This should result in students able to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, ethics, and use of proper tools to meet industry and professional business standards.

SPECIFIC POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop curriculum for new engineering courses in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Develop program and course-level assessments aligned with ABET accreditation standards.
  • Facilitate learning activities so that students learn the principles, theory, skills, and work ethic necessary to become proficient for entry level positions
  • Creates a positive learning environment
  • Monitors, assesses and advises learner on technical and academic progress and performance
  • Uses current academic and industry practices in assigned courses of instruction
  • Develops and upgrades lesson material, training aids and maintains equipment within assigned course of instruction
  • Assists in the recruitment and placement of learners
  • Leads the process of maintaining equipment and recommends new equipment purchases within assigned program
  • As a part of a team, designs and develops new curriculum within assigned program.
  • Participates in industry and/or professional organizations in order to maintain and enhance program health and academic integrity
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related major.
  • P.E. licensure, (preferred).
  • 3-5 years of professional industry experience.
  • 1-3 years teaching experience, (preferred).
  • Experience with ABET accreditation, (preferred).
  • Preference will be given to those with industry experience in Machine Design and/or Manufacturing Engineering using ASME & ASTM standards.
  • Application-based experience with GD&T and FEA.
  • Application-based experience with lab testing equipment, (shear, tensile, torsion, etc..)
  • Experience in robotics (preferred)
