Job Description

 

CobbFendley is a multi-discipline firm founded in 1980 in Houston, Texas, providing engineering and surveying services. The Survey Department is seeking a Party/Crew Chief for the Austin, Texas office.   


The successful candidate's most important qualifications include:
Three to five years of experience using total station with data collector, levels, and GPS receivers
Excellent driving record and a valid driver's license
Strong work ethic
Good verbal and written communications skills
CST Certification is a plus
Follow directions and work well with others

Essential Functions:
Responsible for directing, training and supervising an operational two or three person survey field crew
Direct all phases of work of a field survey crew in determining exact location and measurements of control points, elevation, lines and areas to secure data used for construction, contract payment, qualities, mapping, boundary delineation or other purpose.
Perform survey calculations by computing grade, vertical curves, horizontal curves and deflection angles
Must accurately and efficiently collect field data and locate features
Record data points with data collector
Must operate and maintain company equipment and vehicles
Prepare quick and legible field sketches
Training to meet company safety standards
Work in a safe and efficient manner at all times

Physical Requirements:
Sitting for extended periods of time for training purposes (including extended computer use, typing, and writing)
Standing for extended periods of time
Physical mobility in and around construction sites, traffic work zones, and other field assignments
Alert and responsive while working in lane closure zones adjacent to high volume average daily traffic
Ability to carry survey equipment and supplies in remote, rural or urban surroundings
Ability to lift 50 pounds and walk long distances
Walking and climbing on uneven surfaces
Repeated motions (i.e.- reaching, bending, stooping, carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling, cutting brush with a machete or brush axe, and handling various types of equipment)

Environmental Factors:
Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments (approximately 80% of duties to be performed outdoors in the field and 20% performed indoors in the office/warehouse)
Ability to withstand extreme weather conditions (i.e. hot and freezing temperatures)
Driving for extended periods of time
Use of electric powered tools, cutting tools and other equipment
Potential watercraft use
Noise exposure
Exposure to allergens including but not limited to: poison ivy, sumac, dust, pollen, cedar, etc.
Entering confined spaces
Exposure to construction and traffic work zones
Extended periods of Personal Protective Equipment use

Expected hours of work:
The employee must arrive to work at 7:00 am and must be available to work overtime as well as some weekends (as needed).
Survey crews should be willing to travel approximately 20% of the time, sometimes for several weeks in a row.
The position reports to the Department Manager.
