Job Description

The Senior Compensation Consultant will provide compensation support to the McKesson Pharmaceutical Solution & Services (PSaS) business unit. They will apply experienced, in-depth knowledge of compensation programs and data analysis to inform compensation-related decisions and improve the effectiveness of compensation strategies and programs. Uses technical expertise to work on complex problems where analysis requires rigorous evaluation of multiple factors and data sources.

Position Description

The Compensation Consultant provides guidance and advice to Sr Leaders and Executives within the PSaS organization. S/He is responsible for understanding the strategy of the functions/business in order to align the Compensation strategy to the overall business/function strategy. The ideal candidate must have an "Enterprise first" mindset when determining solutions for the client. S/He applies Compensation principals, best practices and subject matter expertise in order to successfully provide consultation to Sr Leaders and Executives, ensure market competitiveness on key roles in the organization, and provide solutions to address Compensation needs.

  • Develop deep understanding of the business to manage the compensation strategy that aligns with the business/functional strategy.
  • Client interaction: Engage, influence, and provide consultation to various audiences, including HR Business Partners, senior management and executives. Provide advice to partners in a way that expands the understanding of compensation principles and programs, and maintains data integrity and compliance with guidelines.
  • Partner with our HRBPs to advise and influence senior/people leaders in compensation strategy, programs, and issues while balancing business acumen, reward expertise, and relationship skills
  • Advise stakeholders to expand their understanding of compensation principles and programs, and compliance to enable well-informed decisions
  • Lead various compensation projects and initiatives in the business, such as the Annual Compensation Review
  • Participate as Compensation Subject Matter Expert in cross-functional projects, such as Mergers & Acquisitions
  • Provide guidance and expertise to Compensation Analysts or other Compensation Consultants on the team.
  • Assist in the rollout of enterprise-wide compensation program/policy changes; may lead/participate in project teams

Minimum Requirements

  • Typically requires 10+ years of relevant compensation experience
  • 4-year degree in business or related field
  • Master's degree and/or CCP strongly preferred

Critical Skills

  • Minimum 10 years Compensation experience and exhibited expertise in 1 or 2 Compensation practice areas (e.g., equity, executive, base pay, variable/sales programs), preferably in a large, complex organization or corporate setting
  • Should have foundational compensation knowledge such as benchmarking, job evaluations, market research, compensation reviews, survey benchmarking
  • Demonstrated success aligning BU and HR strategy with compensation with the capability to interpret internal/external requirements and recommend solutions/best practices and alternatives
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills with ability to communicate findings in a clear, concise manner

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Naturally conscientious about providing accuracy, quality control and thoroughness in reviewing data and work
  • Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable and unidentifiable factors
  • Possesses business acumen on HR matters, ability to influence, interact and work effectively across Total Rewards function and other related functions, e.g. Talent Management, Talent Acquisition, HR Business Partners, Compensation Consultants, and external vendors
  • Provides critical thinking and problem solving, working with limited direction
  • Provides additional, relevant information than may not have been part of the original ask
  • Provides analysis that identifies the issue, provides understanding, insights, and actionable conclusions
