Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

This Senior Packaging Engineer will manage all packaging ensuring specifications are in place to guarantee quality of Diversey products. This individual will also work closely together with the Packaging Innovation Engineers to ensure all regional requirements are met for new packaging innovations and will be part of the regional portfolio team, working with marketing and supply chain, to agree on the regional packaging strategy, which includes modifications to existing packaging, packaging range harmonization, support new customer sales, and roll-out to other regions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure regional packaging requirements are part of the innovation briefs and be the regional packaging gatekeeper to the innovation teams to guarantee a full proven implementation of the new packaging into the region;

  • Be the R&D packaging expert in working with marketing and supply chain to manage the packaging range in North America;

  • Manage the packaging supply (make) and manufacturing (fill) base together with the supply chain in terms of quality, supplier and 3PA selection and total costs in the supply chain;

  • Develop and implement new packaging (components) on a regional level for projects that are out of the Innovation Development process scope. Ensure projects and products are delivering against pre-defined set of criteria based on agreed briefs;

  • Use and apply appropriate Design for Six Sigma tools in the packaging qualification process, such as FMEA's and Design of Experiments in co-operation with the Engineering laboratory teams;

  • Ensure all packaging specifications, certifications and drawings are up-to-date and agreed with the suppliers and all documentation is captured in the Product Life Cycle management systems;

  • Educate, train and help junior packaging colleagues.

  • Perform lab testing to ensure packaging meets requirements


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor with minimum 7 years of experience in packaging, mechanical or industrial design engineering (Master's degree with minimum 3 years of experience in the packaging field preferred)

  • Good knowledge of engineering standards

  • Good knowledge of packaging production, packaging materials (bottles, blow molded and injection molded, flexible films and dispensing spouts/caps) and filling techniques

  • Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize work on multiple projects to meet deadlines

  • Fluent in English

  • Willing to travel in North America and outside North America if needed

  • Good CAD skills, preferably 3D Solidworks

  • Familiar with UN packaging compliance regulations

  • Understanding of interaction between chemicals and packaging materials

  • Familiar with Design for Six Sigma tools, such as FMEA's, Design of Experiment

  • Experience with blow molded bottles and flexible films design, manufacturing and specifications

  • Comfortable performing lab testing (ESCR, compatibility, vibration, compression, etc.)

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong proactive and constructive communication skills

  • Strong understanding of project management

  • Strong understanding of product life cycle management

  • Strong understanding of document and revision control;
