Background

Sotera Health Services, LLC (formerly Sterigenics International, LLC) is a global leader in outsourced contract sterilization services, laboratory and testing services, gamma technologies and medical isotopes, and the only vertically integrated sterilization company in the world. Our Sterigenics business unit operates out of 47 facilities in 13 countries across the Americas, Europe and Asia, and provides contract sterilization and ionization services for the medical device, pharmaceutical, food safety, and high-performance materials industries. Our Nelson Labs business unit offers microbiological and analytical testing and consultancy to assist customers in developing and maintaining sterilization solutions in medical devices, tissue/implantable products, and pharmaceuticals and biologics fields. Our Nordion business unit positions us as the world's largest provider of Cobalt-60 used in the gamma sterilization process as well as medical isotopes used in the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases and cancers. We serve more than 2,500 customers around the world and are owned by private equity firms Warburg Pincus and GTCR.

Sotera Health Services is continuing its "One Company" strategy in our Shared Services organization to support its North American operations in its Broadview Heights, OH Corporate HQ. We are looking for financial talent to join our general ledger accounting team and continue building our organization focused on process efficiency, customer service and continuous improvement. The Staff Accountant will report to the Senior Accountant. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who can contribute and develop in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform month end close process of the Company's North American operating units in a timely and accurate manner

  • Prepare month end journal entries and general ledger account reconciliations

  • Analyze account balances to identify discrepancies and propose solutions to resolve identified errors

  • Prepare monthly variance analysis to identify possible issues and to explain monthly results and trends

  • Customer Service oriented mind-set and attitude to answer questions and support the business

  • Ensure accounting procedures are performed according to the department's defined standards and policies

  • Assist with external audits and new accounting guidance implementation

  • Other duties as assigned

    Skills and Experience Requirements

  • Strong accounting knowledge - strong knowledge of US GAAP and the ability to properly apply accounting rules and guidance and to effectively communicate complex accounting issues to non-financial people at all levels

  • Solid analytical skills - a professional who is able to apply strong analytical skills to produce accurate reporting and to improve various aspects of the close and reporting processes

  • Track record of continuous improvement - an energetic individual who is not satisfied with the status quo and is always focused on the improvement of business processes, reporting, and controls within his or her team and across the organization

  • Strong interpersonal skills - a relationship builder with a professional, open and confident style who can build bridges and work effectively across a global organization and who has strong communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Proactive approach - someone who addresses each task with a sense of urgency and is capable of generating a high volume of quality work products

  • Good systems knowledge - experience and understanding of JDE or similar enterprise systems, HFM consolidations system


    Other Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting

  • CPA or Candidate or Public Accounting experience a plus

  • Ability to work overtime and effectively under tight time constraints as required at peak reporting periods

  • Strong PC skills including Excel experience

  • Strong English skills (written and verbal)

  • Occasional travel possible
