Job Summary:

 

The working hours are: Monday through Friday, 6:15am -3:30pm; settlement begins after 3:30pm.  Settlement is usually complete by 4:00pm - 4:15pm, provided there are no settlement challenges.

Under direct supervision and in accordance with strict custody control guidelines, Treasury regulations, and department procedures accept accountability for large amounts of currency or coin and perform duties in the assigned unit requiring a limited amount of decision making. This position requires flexibility as the employee must be able to rotate with experienced level clerks to learn the duties and responsibilities that will lead to the next grade level.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Depending on the assigned area, responsibilities include only the appropriate items below:

  

Processes currency on a high speed processing system, or a medium speed reconciliation station.  As part of a processing team, perform duties on a rotating basis including: the preparation of money for machine processing, the operation of currency verification, counting and sorting equipment, and the reconciliation of machine rejected notes. May prepare and piece count special deposits as needed.

 

Receives and verifies currency and coin deposits from armored carriers, compares straps and bundles to deposit slips; inspects the integrity of bags and seals and notify management of exceptions. Transfers valuables to and from other processing teams in accordance with established controls and procedures and maintains custody of valuables from receipt until transfer. Manually transports containers to and from vault utilizing fork lift equipment to stack containers in vault.


Receives and verifies new coin shipments from U.S. Mint, and circulated coins from financial institutions and offsite coin terminals.  Performs an integrity inspection of bags; fills coin orders, pays coin to armored carriers and returns coin pallets to U.S. Mint in accordance to established requirements.

Prepares currency orders for pay-out to designated carriers.  Ensures orders for all financial institutions are accurately completed in strict adherence to established procedures.  Ensures that sufficient currency is on hand to fill orders and that excess currency is properly stored.


Serves as part of the vault team with accountability for a large inventory of currency or coin. Transfers currency and coin to processing units in accordance with established controls and procedures and maintains custody of valuables from receipt until transfer.  Performs settlements of transfers, transactions, and end of day settlements.


Serves as Accommodation Teller for Federal Reserve Bank Employees.

Performs witness functions in support of Independent Destroy All (IDA) processes as required by the Office of Compliance (Treasury).   May assist management in conducting audits of off-site coin terminals or Strategic Inventory Locations.

 

Periodic Duties:

Fulfills job duties and responsibilities in conformance with sound safety practices.

Actively involved in the accomplishment of departmental and Bank-wide quality initiatives.

May participate in the off-line currency destruction process.

Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent.

Settlement experience preferred.

 

Knowledge and Skills:

Must pass an entry level math test.

Must meet production standards and quality measures.

Must obtain training certification to operate fork lift equipment as required by OSHA if assigned to the Vault Operation.

Must pass counterfeit certification at 100%.

 

Other Requirements: 

Working Conditions other than normal office environment

Cash Services clerks are confined to a specific area with accountability for large amounts of money. When working as part of a team the employee must remain or leave the area in tandem with the other team members and actively conform to all other custody control standards at all times.

Exposure to noise from currency verification, counting, sorting equipment.

Employee is expected to wear a smock and is confined to a small work area for a majority of the day.

Wearing safety shoes is mandatory if assigned to the Vault Operation.

Must be able to work overtime.

Flexibility when rotating to other units.

Employee may be designated as an essential staff member. In that case, the employee will be expected to report to work if the Bank deviates from a business as normal operating status during a severe weather event or any other contingency scenario.

 

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift 5-50 lbs at a time from ground level up to a height of 4 feet.

The strength to push or pull single trucks weighing 500-600 lbs and push/pull multiple trucks weighing over 1,000 lbs up to a distance of 200 feet.

Ability to push cash containers stacked three high for distances up to 200 feet. 

Ability to work while standing for extended periods of time.

Ability to operate a fork-lift vehicle.

Ability to operate an electric pallet jack.
