Working knowledge of assistive technology, including IT experience as it relates to educational accommodations. Experience in data collection, management, and extrapolation. Knowledge of universal design implementation and/or accessibility guidelines and implementation strategies.

Position Overview

Primary Purpose of Position
The Office of Accessibility Resources (OARS) at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University provides reasonable and appropriate accommodations. Hence, students with documented disabilities and medical diagnoses have equal access to programs, activities, materials, and all aspects of the university experience.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Testing Coordinator reports directly to the Director of the Office of Accessibility Resources in the Division of Academic Affairs. The Testing Coordinator serves as a service provider for students with documented disabilities on campus to ensure equal access within the academic and campus life setting in accordance with the Rehabilitation Act Section 504, The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act (ADAAA).
Work Hours Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-5:00 PM

Key Responsibilities and Related Competencies

Required Competency Coordination - Work
Duties
  • Prepares exam materials according to student accommodations and instructor directions.
  • Creates alternative exam formats for students as needed per accommodations. Ensures receipt of exam materials to faculty members. Scans and prepares exams to return to instructors in a timely manner.

Required Competency Decision Making & Problem Solving
Duties
  • Assists the Assistant Director with interviewing, hiring, training, and development of testing student assistants. Serves as an accommodated testing resource for students, faculty, staff, and service agencies/provider.
  • Assists in managing assistive technology and keeps records up to date. Support registered students with assistive technology accommodation requests.
  • Collaborates with faculty around assistive technology needs. This would include alternate format textbooks, Read/Write, Live Scribe Pen requests, etc.

Required Competency Information/Records Administration
Duties
  • Maintains a current knowledge base of federal and state laws, regulations, and rules governing the provision of services for persons with documented disabilities and their application within a post-secondary educational setting. Pursues self-directed learning on national trends and best practices in accessibility and accommodated testing.
  • Maintain case records in Accessible Information Management (AIM). Serves on departmental committees, and task force. Maintains webpage, Twitter account, Blackboard, and OARS Newsletter to relay disability-related information. Other duties as assigned.
