Job Description
Printpack Rigid is seeking a candidate to fill a Quality Technician position in our Newport News, VA Facility. This position will report to the Quality Manger and his/her key responsibility is to assure that quality criteria is met based on internal and external specifications and quality standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Model Printpack's Core Values (https://www.printpack.com/core-values/)

  • Foster an environment focused on safety. Including but not limited to: performing machine safety audits, behavior-based safety observations, identifying near misses and opportunities for improvement, driving associate engagement on shift

  • Participate in product and machine qualifications

  • Conduct audits for product quality review, process compliance, and food safety

  • Perform gauging functions for production in a Quality lab environment

  • Proficient using of manual and automated gauges to obtain accurate data in a timely manner

  • Ability to analyze and interpret gage data and make proper manufacturing and quality decisions

  • Conduct product hold and analyze information for containment functions

  • Perform functions regarding the proper use of tags, labels, and work orders to inprocess and completed finished goods

  • Manage re-work and disposition of quality hold material

  • Assist in investigations and problem solving of product defects

  • Maintain and update control charts for internal SPC software

  • General understanding of statistical process control

  • Create and maintain work instructions, job aids, and other pictorial based illustrations

  • Working knowledge of quality control related procedures

  • Working knowledge of controlled documents stored on a Sharepoint environment

  • Demonstrates a good working knowledge of defects from our products/process. Can discern the difference between minor, major and critical defects from our products/process.

  • Analyze information to make a proper containment of product to protect our customers

  • A good working understanding of all of Printpack manufacturing processes (extension, thermoforming and printing)

  • Calibrate internal test equipment/fixtures

  • Fill out certificates of analysis and submit to customers

  • Support both Newport News and Williamsburg plants

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • High School Diploma/GED or minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience.

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to wear all required PPE (hearing protection, safety glasses, hairnet, uniforms, and steel-toed shoes)

  • Ability to work weekends (36/48 weekly shift), holidays, and overtime as needed.

  • Strong computer skills, experience with MS Office, Sharepoint and email software packages

  • Perform basic excel functions

  • Effectively work alone with little to no supervision and the ability to work well in a team

  • Drive excellence and shows initiative as well cross functional awareness

  • Strong Communication skills, both orally and written

  • Good understanding of urgency and a strong ability to face conflict and effectively confront defective products and harmful practices on production floor

  • Strong attention to detail, detail oriented, and ability to solve problems

Preferred:

  • General knowledge and work experience in Extrusion and/or Forming departments

  • 5 Years of job-related experience

  • Ability to work well under pressure

  • Possesses the ability to prioritize

  • Experience working in a ISO FSSC 2000 Company, ISO 9001 or other quality management system

  • Experience auditing in a manufacturing environment

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no direct supervisory duties.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to perform the following: bending, lifting, repetitive motions, walking, and squatting.
