In support of the University's education mission, the Student Centers will provide support to events and activities that will enrich the student experience. Campus Enterprises is NC State University's division of retail and hospitality organizations - NC State Dining, NC State Stores, Lonnie Poole Golf Course, NC State Student Centers (Witherspoon and Talley), and the One Card Office. Each department is dedicated to providing service excellence, value and enrichment of the student experience in support of academic success.
Essential Job Duties
The primary purpose of this position is to clean and perform routine housekeeping duties in the NC State Student Centers with a focus on repairs and general upkeep of equipment and furniture. This position requires a high degree of flexibility to respond to and coordinate with the needs of clients, occupants, and requests. Communication with the team, others and supervisor is critical for success. Reporting to the Operations and Logistics supervisor, may also assist with delivery/moving of items within the Student Centers.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Use standard housekeeping equipment, tools and supplies to accomplish basic cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, disinfecting, and replenishing to complete assigned responsibilities and job tasks.
  • Assist with cleanup at the loading dock including drains, compactors, carts, etc.
  • Responsible for reporting discrepancies found within the building in addition to responding to emergencies and inclement weather.
  • Complete assigned projects.
  • Inventory of assigned area.
  • Move, repair and reset furniture.
  • Understand and report when equipment is not functioning properly. Perform standard maintenance on equipment.
  • Assist with Facilities Enhancement Laundry Program.
  • Seasonal assistance may include assisting with routine building cleanout/purging/surplus, moving furniture, unpacking equipment, and inventory assistance.
  • Mandatory status during adverse weather (and other emergency) conditions to participate in snow/ice removal under the direction of a supervisor.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the NC State Student Centers' business needs are met.
Qualifications

Minimum Experience/Education
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Special certification may be required for some of these positions.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures and best business practices in housekeeping industry.
  • Ability to report discrepancies found within the assigned building in addition to responding to emergencies and inclement weather.
  • Able to use standard housekeeping equipment such as vacuums, to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, general public, supervisors, and peers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using university e-mail.
  • Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions.
  • Provide outstanding customer service, including the ability to remain professional and respectful under pressure when dealing with difficult situations.
  • Excellence in completing all tasks.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • This position requires standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, twisting, pulling and pushing.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 60 lbs frequently and 90 lbs occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience performing housekeeping duties in a university or commercial environment.
  • Experience with furniture repair.
  • Experience with housekeeping equipment repair.
  • Valid Driver's License.
