Mechatronics Technician Summary:

The Mechatronics Technician plays a pivotal role in maintaining the seamless operation of production environments, especially where machinery and systems are involved. The technician is responsible for performing skilled equipment maintenance, ensuring both mechanical and electronic components of production machinery operate efficiently and reliably. They diagnose and repair malfunctions, conduct preventive maintenance, and collaborate closely with engineering teams to implement system improvements and equipment installations and qualifications. Their expertise not only minimizes downtime but also enhances the longevity and performance of production equipment, making them an indispensable asset in any manufacturing setting.

Location: This position is on-site in Providence, RI.

Mechatronics Technician Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preventative Maintenance and Inspection: Conducts regular inspections and routine maintenance of machinery and equipment to ensure optimal operation, identifying and addressing potential issues before they escalate.
  • Troubleshooting and Repairs: Utilizes problem-solving skills to diagnose and fix mechanical, electronic, and system malfunctions in production equipment, minimizing downtime and maintaining productivity.
  • Record Keeping and Documentation: Maintains detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and replacements, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and facilitating efficient tracking of equipment history within Contech's Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Safety Compliance: Ensures all maintenance activities comply with safety standards and protocols, actively contributing to a safe working environment.
  • Inventory Management: Manages inventory of spare parts and maintenance supplies, ensuring availability of critical components while optimizing stock levels to reduce costs.
  • Equipment Construction and Continuous Improvement: Constructs and assembles equipment according to specific technical specifications. Preferred ability to use CAD software (SOLIDWORKS preferred) to pull dimensions and build information and ability to interpret, modify and program PLC driven equipment, leveraging their expertise to recommend and implement improvements. This responsibility involves closely collaborating with the engineering teams to ensure equipment meets operational needs while also proposing modifications that enhance efficiency, reliability, and safety based on their hands-on experience and technical insight.

Mechatronics Technician Requirements:

  • An Associate's degree or technical certification in Mechatronics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing or production environment, with a strong background in both mechanical and electronic systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems, with the ability to read and interpret semi-complex schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Familiarity with computer aided design (CAD) software, as well as familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and automation technology.
  • Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, with a systematic approach to solving complex technical issues in equipment and systems.
  • Skilled in the construction, assembly, and modification of equipment according to technical specifications, with attention to detail and precision.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively both independently and in a team between various departments.
