PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Business Operations manager is responsible for the 24x7 operation of the Network Operations department which provides timely and accurate train and interchange reporting, processing of customer switch requests, way billing, and border train documentation. This role will have leadership accountability for inputs and outputs of safety, service, productivity, and financial metrics.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Lead the department and provide direction and guidance to establish team priorities and define and manage workload
  • Teach, train, coach, and mentor the team to develop consistent and best-in-class execution and customer service
  • Foster and promote innovative solutions that drive cost reduction and continuous improvement of processes
  • Adhere to the standard Service Level Agreement (SLA) for processing inbound documents and requests
  • Liaise with Train and Engine (T&E) Trainmasters and Assistant Trainmasters, managing shift-by-shift issues to enable effective train movement
  • Manage labor issues
  • Act as a point of escalation for all tactical issues on the production floor

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • University degree preferred and/or 5 years of relevant working experience
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Experience providing customer service in a similar work environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Relevant railway working experience; considered an asset
  • Ability to multitask under strict timelines and pressure
  • Ability to manage conflict
  • Strong stakeholder management skills

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
