Dewberry's Raleigh, NC office includes over 200 design professionals, including a large Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Structural (MEPS) Group focused on design services for clients in North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina. Our experience includes all major healthcare systems, higher education, K-12 schools, central plants/infrastructure, and more. Raleigh's MEPS group contains subject matter experts in leadership roles in all major professional organizations such as ASHE, ASHRAE, etc. Our repeat clients include most of the largest hospital systems, universities, and state, local, and federal government agencies. Our MEPS service line is ranked #30 Nationally among MEP Giants and our local Raleigh office is ranked #3 by size in engineering firms in the Triangle.

Because our backlog continues to grow, we are seeking a Discipline Manager - Plumbing/Fire Protection to join our Raleigh, NC office. As a Discipline Manager - Plumbing/Fire Protection, you will be responsible for knowing how to do the work committed to in proposals and assigning / leading the appropriate resources to do the work for discipline area. Assist Project/Client Managers by providing engineering resources - a design team - to help meet the client's desires and budget. Duties would also include some involvement in direct MEP sales and assisting with sales efforts for multidiscipline projects. In short, provide the design/engineering resources and guidance to accomplish our commitments. Experience with Design/Build projects is a plus. Reports to the Plumbing/Fire Protection Principal Engineer.

Discipline Managers are expected to provide the following to others on the design team to effectively and successfully complete projects:
• Technical and Quality oversight of all project work for discipline area.
• Establishing/improving standards for discipline area.
• Adherence to project design schedule.
• Notification to Project/Client Managers if established project design schedule cannot be met. Notify in enough time to appropriately handle the situation, preferably at the latest 2 weeks prior.
• Adherence to discipline project budget. Review and provide updates on project budgets at milestone dates. Reviewing discipline budgets weekly.
• Attention to project scope during the design process to identify potential additional services.
• Identify staff performing design of the project, along with a senior staff member if required.
• Identify Engineer of Record.
• Provide general updates of projects (status in the process, tasks to complete, percentage complete currently, etc.)
• Identify milestone dates when each discipline should provide information, at each phase, to allow sufficient time for good design coordination.
• Provide 'on-the-spot' advice and decisions, technical and cost estimates.
• Coordination with all the disciplines involved, including outside consultants.
• Work schedule for discipline showing:

1. Project assignments and priorities
2. Delivery due dates for group project commitment's
3. Workload/Capacity

• Discipline Managers control all production resources, and all commitments must come from Discipline leaders. Conversely - accountability for our deliveries comes from Discipline Managers.

• Accomplished professional engineer (PE). Existing licensure in NC is preferred.
• Minimum 15+ years of experience.
• Experience should include technical oversight of multiple projects with proven success providing technical oversight on projects that meet contract specifications and technical standards to the client on time and within budget.
• Self-motivated with highly developed verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
• Well organized, takes good notes.
