Job Overview:

As a Security Monitor, you ensure the safety of everyone who enters The Salvation Army Harbor Light Center while making visitors feel welcome.

What You Will Do:

  • Enforce rules of the Harbor Light Center
  • Ensure the safety of all clients, staff and visitors
  • Monitor all incoming traffic into the facility 24 hours per day
  • Monitor security cameras
  • Facilitate and perform emergency evacuations
  • Secure the building and ensures all doors are locked
  • Conduct internal and external rounds throughout the building and premises
  • Perform searches of dorm rooms, or other spaces, to detect contraband or other prohibited items
  • Conduct Breathalyzers test on every clients (required & random) entering South Entrance
  • Conduct urine drug screens (required & random) on clients as needed
  • Perform search of belongings on all perspective clients
  • Perform search of belongings for current clients who have left the facility (i.e., work, shop, etc.) and are re-entering the building, escort clients to the welcome center where they are searched and change into scrubs
  • Direct and document Bed Checks to verify clients= census on a nightly basis
  • Confiscate, dispose, and document all contraband found on clients, in building or premises
  • Escort clients to meals when there is no staff available for that department "fill in only"
  • Monitor clients at breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks
  • Conduct mandatory Morning Thoughts
  • Dispense and track lunch bags given to working clients
  • Transport clients to and from the hospital when there is no one from the clients' department to transport "fill in only"
  • Transport client medications to Medical Room
  • Monitor the Medical Room during medication administration
  • Maintain Transitional Housing sign in/out sheets
  • Maintain 15-Minute Break sign in/out sheets
  • Perform daily watch clock rounds throughout the building
  • Document & complete Incident Reports for events related to the building, premises, off-site occurrences and/or clients
  • Receive and complete Property Log for all property dropped off to clients
  • Secure and complete Valuables Log of all clients= valuables/property
  • Log every piece of mail received from the United States Postal Services
  • Answer, transfer and direct all incoming calls to the appropriate person or department
  • Monitor Residential Treatment Department and clients when no Residential Treatment staff is in the building
  • Monitor community service workers
  • Process & receipt cash and/or check payments for client accounts when Financial Office is closed
  • Attend monthly In-service Meetings and staff meetings
  • Help/Assist other departments as needed or directed
  • Maintain attendance with agency guidelines
  • Contribute to a positive work environment
  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership

Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred

Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed and all background check results will be reviewed.

Experience: Security experience preferred

Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment

Skills/Abilities:

  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele
  • If in recovery, must demonstrate a minimum of 1 year of social and emotional stability

Supervisory Responsibility: No supervisory responsibilities

Physical Requirements Include:

  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity
  • Lifting, pulling and pushing of materials up to 50 pounds may be expected
  • Require bending, squatting, walking
  • Require standing for extended periods

Travel: No travel required

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical office environment; may require some weekend and evening work
