The BWFH ACMO and VP of Medical Affairs reports to the BWH / BWFH CMO. They have the primary responsibility for ensuring execution of the core OCMO functions at BWFH - including professionalism, credentialing, medical policy (where appropriate), OPPE / FPPE oversight. The BWFH ACMO will work with the BWH ACMO, VP of Quality to oversee daily activities related to quality, safety, patient experience and health equity at BWFH. The BWFH ACMO will represent the CMO office, as needed, on projects and committees across both Brigham campuses, such as the BWH Board oversight committees and regular meetings with hospital and physician organization executive and clinical leadership. They will function as a clinical leader and advisor on operational issues as they impact the professional staff of both hospitals. By establishing professional and personal credibility with the BWH and BWFH medical staff, management, employees, and Mass General Brigham management, the ACMO will establish a tone of leadership which is professional, progressive, and outcome oriented.

General Responsibilities

* Leading advocate for patients and high quality care across all care settings

* Coordination of BWFH institutional quality and safety concerns with enterprise CMO team, and the BWH ACMO, VP of Quality.

* Participate as member of the BWH senior management team and advise on matters related to medical policy, clinical care, credentialling, professionalism and advance practice providers (APP) workforce issues.

* Work closely with the department of Nursing and the Chief Nursing Officer for BWFH to help ensure alignment of clinical practice, operations, and medical policy.

* Assist with the development tracking and reporting for OPPE and FPPE for physicians across BWH and BWFH.

* Represents the BWH CMO in their absence at various internal leadership meetings as well as to external audiences.

* Communicate proactively with practicing physicians. This may include regularly attending departmental staff meetings to listen and to speak on behalf of the BWPO/MGPO.

* Support clinical communications across BWH/MGH environment related to quality

Quality and Safety

* Support the BWH CMO and ACMO / VP of Quality in presentation of performance to the hospital and BWPO Board

* Leading advocate for patients and high-quality care across all care settings

* Coordination of institutional quality and safety concerns with ACMO / VP of Quality and enterprise CMO team

* Participate as member of the BWH/MGB senior management team and advise on matters related to quality, safety, patient experience, and health equity

* Serve as physician executive responsible for planning and executing site level-preparedness for surveys at the hospital.

* In coordination with the CMO and ACMO / VP of Quality, manage the Quality Committee of the Board

* Serve as on-site physician executive in support of embedded enterprise team members for clinical compliance, risk management, and patient safety, including conduct of safety event evaluations and mitigation, and Joint Commission surveys and other regulatory site visits and inquiries (DPH, BPHC, etc).

* Serve as physician executive responsible for planning and executing site level-preparedness for surveys at the hospital.

* Support MGB Medical Director for Infection Control in the local implementation of infection control policies in coordination with on-site infection preventionists

* Serve as physician lead to embedded enterprise hospital quality teams including those supporting Medicare Value Based Purchasing, Hospital Acquired Conditions, and Hospital Readmission Reduction programs

* Support advancement of ambulatory quality goals (including Internal Performance Framework) across BWH/MGH in collaboration with MGB CMO and Population Health Management teams

* Oversee the clinical documentation integrity program for the hospital in close collaboration with the MGB CDI Medical Director and Senior Director and ACMO/ VP Quality, with oversight of the CDI nursing specialists and CDI medical director at the site.

Advanced Practice Provers

* Support the BWH CMO in the development of APP (PA and NP) governance.

In coordination with MGB leadership, refine the APP career ladder strategy and implementation.

* Refine the processes by which OPPE and FPPE are developed and tracked for APPs.

Credentialing

* Act as liaison to the MGB Central Credentialing Office (CCO) and departmental credentialing representatives to assist and troubleshoot credentialling process for BWH and BWFH physicians and APPs

* Represent the BWH OCMO at the BWFH Medical Staff Credentialing Committee

* Sign off on emergency credentials when required for medical staff and APPs

Health Equity

* On-site physician executive supporting implementation of system wide health equity activities that align with MGB United Against Racism strategy

* Coordinate activities with the MGB Senior Medical Director for Health Equity

  • Provide counsel on local programs and efforts to effect system goals;

Qualifications

Qualifications:

* Strong preference given to candidates with experience within MGB system

* MD/DO degree with significant combination of clinical and administrative experience in a large academic medical setting and board-certified in specialty.

* Advanced business or healthcare administration degree desirable but not required

* A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership in hospital setting or large health care organization with proven leadership and management skills.

* Capable of working in an extremely complex academic medical center as part of a large integrated delivery system with many matrixed relationships

* Must be a skilled communicator and team-builder

* Experience in quality improvement, safety event evaluation, health equity, and patient relations/ service recovery

* Experience in managing local site preparedness and readiness for Joint Commission and other surveys/site visits

* Exemplary interpersonal communication skills required to interact effectively with senior management and physicians on sensitive political and confidential issues.

* It is expected that this role will take a minimum of 0.8 FTE, and will combined with expected clinical work.
