Position Summary: Assistant coach will support the development of the Science Olympiad team so that they are prepared for competition.
Responsibilities: * Supervises all team practices and events. * Develops exams and assesses the potential student team in approximately 5 Science Olympiad events. Will develop more assessments as the season progresses. * Communicate with the head coach about highest performing student team selections for tournament. * Attends tournaments to support the logistics of the team. * Supervises and chaperones students during tournaments. * Uses developed tests to run events at tournaments. * Organizes team events during practice and competition * Sets-up event materials and resources. * Communicates with students about event.
Skills: Assistant coaches need to have experience in specific areas of science (or are willing to learn about specific areas) in order to teach students on the team. Some areas of specific science expertise: Earth Science, Biology and Anatomy, Physics, Astronomy, Chemistry, Technology and Engineering. *This last area (engineering) is the most time consuming of roles. Each event can easily need 3-5 hours per week all season. Use of specific engineering devices is also required.

Hours Per Week: 3-5* (More during tournament Season. Each Tournament is 10-12 hours with 4 tournaments expected (including Regionals.) State tournament is an overnight with at least 50 hours expected.)

Performance Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District evaluation procedures.
