THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Cosmetology Instructor, you will plan, develop, and administer an on-the-job training program in the cosmetology trade to inmates. In this position, you develop the curriculum, question and answer sheets, and general course requirements in preparing inmate students for state board examinations for a cosmetologist license. You can expect to instruct inmates in the practices, methods, and techniques of cosmetology by classroom instruction, demonstration, and on-the-job training. You will also evaluate student progress through written examinations, observation, and conferences for adherence to standards, laws, and regulations. Additionally, you will provide cosmetology services to the inmate population.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $48,425 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Special Requirement:

  • Possession of a valid Cosmetology Teacher License issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Cosmetology.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
