Job/Internship Description

SUMMARY

The intern will work with the productionteam to improve overall production techniques using lean manufacturing principles. Provide a wide range of mechanical/manufacturing engineering skills. Have knowledge in the areas of manufacturing, machining, electrical machine controls, gauging, and quality systems. This is a part-time permanent (not seasonal) Intern position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Assists in implementation of various continuous improvement efforts.
  • Creates training documents, time studies, and standard work documents.
  • Assists with work area layout, relocation, and setup.
  • Develops and installs visual management aids.
  • Performs system data management projects to include routings, BOM's, and part master data.
  • Assists with running production or assembly as needed.
  • Performs other duties and assists in other areas as needed.

Critical Competencies

  • Knowledge in the use of safety practices
  • Will have some knowledge of manufacturing methods, techniques, and related equipment
  • This position requires a self-motivated individual who is willing to roll up their sleeves and get dirty and can work independently
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations
  • Will be computer literate, particularly in shop floor control, production planning, and inventory control applications

Education and Experience Requirements

Current student studying mechanical or manufacturing engineering

The noise levels in the work environment it usually moderate. However, on some instances this job may require work in areas where ear protection is necessary.

Lifting requirements include but not limited to the following:

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
