Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking an Operations Lead for the Deep Space Network (DSN) program in our Monrovia, CA location in support of NASA/JPL.

The Deep Space Network is NASA's international array of giant radio antennas that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions, plus a few that orbit Earth. The DSN also provides radar and radio astronomy observations that improve our understanding of the solar system and the larger universe. The antennas of the Deep Space Network are the indispensable link to explorers venturing beyond the moon. They provide the crucial connection for commanding our spacecraft and receiving their never before seen images and scientific information on Earth, propelling our understanding of the universe, our solar system and ultimately, our place within it.

The Operations Lead is operationally and administratively responsible to the Network Operations Control Team (NOCT) Manager. The Operations Lead is responsible for real-time monitor and control of the NOCT and real-time resource management of Deep Space Network (DSN) assets. DSN assets include, but are not limited to, all operational ground station antennas and their related subsystems. The Operations Lead is a supervisory position and mentor to a real-time team of Deep Space Operations Center (DSOC) personnel charged to meet DSN customer requirements.

Responsibilities:

    Is the Senior DSN O&M Contract management representative outside normal business hours.
  • Is the Central point of contract for real-time coordination issues which may include, DSN resource scheduling conflicts; DSN resource allocations in support of spacecraft emergencies and loss of real-time assets; JPL/Peraton management personnel notifications; DSOC facilities evacuations and DSOC safety issues.
  • Monitoring of real-time data delivery performance and data quality from DSN ground station equipment and related subsystems and provides the necessary resolution to less than expected performance.
  • Continuous evaluation and documentation of NOCT processes and procedures for improvement purposes. This shall include generating, updating and deleting of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), ISO work instructions, and other relevant documentation used in the NOCT.
  • Participates in network testing and training in the DSOC and throughout the DSN. This shall include maintaining approved certification training matrices, providing training to assigned personnel, participating in training on new equipment and processes, and participates in ongoing training to ensure the NOCT is at the highest level of proficiency.
  • Facilitates problem isolation, troubleshooting, restoral and resolution of voice and data flow impacts to the DSN user community. This includes performing management escalations and personnel notifications as necessary.
  • Generation of reports, logs and metrics as determined by the DSN O&M task description document. This includes daily/weekly/monthly reports, monthly performance metrics, and other reports as requested.
  • Represent the NOCT, as required, in JPL/Peraton meetings and reviews. The types of meetings that can be expected are Mission Readiness Reviews, Peer Reviews, Task Readiness Reviews, Town hall meetings and other mission planning meetings.
  • Providing performance objectives, periodic performance evaluations, performance improvement plans, on-the-job training, mentorship and leadership to personnel assigned as your direct reports.
  • Leads/Participates in the Six Sigma / Greenbelt process to improve DSN processes and procedures.
  • Other assigned duties as assigned by the NOCT Manager.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics/Telecom or related technical discipline and 2+ years of related work experience with network operations.
  • Equivalent years of experience can be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Must be able to obtain a trusted background check and pass a National Criminal Information Check (NCIC). In order to obtain a clearance, you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.

Target Salary Range
$66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
