Essential Functions

Job Summary

Oversight of NCAA compliance program, which includes the implementation of effective policies and procedures that ensure control over UTSA's Intercollegiate Athletics program. Direct, coordinate, implement, facilitate and evaluate a comprehensive NCAA compliance program while serving as a member of the athletics leadership management team.

Core Responsibilities
  1. Serve as a member of the athletics leadership management team.
  2. Administer and manage a comprehensive NCAA Division I and American Athletic Conference rules compliance program that includes development and implementation.
  3. Lead compliance program strategic initiatives.
  4. Serve as primary compliance contact for the department.
  5. Create, develop and monitor all policies and procedures relative to the compliance program, including, but not limited to recruiting, eligibility, financial aid, playing and practice seasons, student-athlete employment, amateurism, extra benefits and outside income.
  6. Coordinate, investigate and report violations and filing of waiver requests.
  7. Maintain squad lists, coordinate rules education program and provide rules interpretations.
  8. In conjunction with Sports Medicine, coordinate NCAA and institutional drug testing programs.
  9. Work closely with other departments and offices on campus to implement and maintain appropriate compliance procedures.
  10. Coordinate the business of the Intercollegiate Athletic Council in conjunction with the Faculty Athletics Representative.
  11. Work collaboratively with UT System and UTSA Internal Audit departments in areas of risk assessments.
  12. May serve as a sport administrator for designated sports to be assigned by the Vice President for Athletics.
  13. Complies with NCAA, Conference and University rules and regulations.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Five years of NCAA compliance experience in a Division I university, conference or national association office setting to include:
  • Three years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience with NCAA Compliance Assistance internet (CAi); NCAA Academic Performance Program (APP), NCAA Legislative Services Database for the internet (LDSBi); recruiting/compliance software; Banner, and Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated independent decision-making and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of NCAA, conference and university rules and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Law, Masters, or other relevant advanced degree from an accredited institution.
  • Seven years of experience in a Division I university or national association office setting.

Working Conditions

Working Environment:
  • Office environment.
  • Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events.
  • After hours and weekend work is required on an occasional basis.

Physical Demands:
  • Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary, if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.

This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
