ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing oversight and administrative support to the Hospitality & Culinary Department.

  • Developing Hospitality and Tourism Management Bachelor's Degree curriculum.

  • Teaching up to 9 semester hours in Fall and Spring semesters, 3 semester hours in Summer

  • Ensuring the training and placement of qualified program graduates.

  • Representing the Hospitality Institute and IRSC at professional national organizational conferences/meetings, i.e. iCHRIE.

  • Representing the Hospitality Institute and IRSC at local professional and other organizations.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Participating in and arrangement of activities; including proficiency with lodging software.

  • Providing information related to admission requirements for the Hospitality programs.

  • Developing on-line curriculum for degree and non-degree seeking students including professionals in the industry seeking continuing education.

  • Providing lab, and classroom oversight to the culinary and hospitality students.

  • Developing and verifying course/classroom information.

  • Developing and maintaining good working relationships with local restaurants, lodging and tourism businesses, schools, and relevant community groups.

  • Completing other duties and assuming other responsibilities which the Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs, CAO or Dean of Workforce Education may direct.

Responsibilities to the Hospitality & Culinary Department:

The Director of Hospitality Institute must be able to evaluate student performance and perform the following procedures to competency within the same treatment time as management in Culinary & Lodging establishments:

  • Knowledge of commonly used culinary and lodging software.

  • Willingness to work with the Culinary, and Hospitality and Tourism faculty to ensure that student competencies are met.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include:

  • PhD in Hospitality or related field, preferred.

  • Minimum of five (2) years of teaching experience at post-secondary institution.

  • Administration experience in post-secondary institution, preferred.

  • Hospitality industry experience in management level positions.

  • Proven proficiency in technology such as Microsoft Windows and lodging property management systems.

  • Proven knowledge of social media and on-line teaching technology.

  • Proven track record of post-secondary elements of teaching, advising, research and engaging in service to both internal and external areas.

  • Ability to work well with administrators, faculty, and staff, and be people oriented.

  • Excellent communication skills -both verbal and written.

  • Accurate database and database management skills.

  • Proven ability to work with a diverse student population.

  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.

  • Ability to develop a budget and initiate partnerships.

  • Ability to develop strategies to recruit, retain and complete students.

  • Strong organizational skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present verbal lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards as well as professional attire while employed by the College, including but not limited to proper footwear.
