HJF is seeking an Optometrist to provide scientific, technical and programmatic support services to the Warfighter Refractive Eye and Surgery Program and Research Center (WRESP). The Optometrist is responsible for pre-surgical evaluation, work up and post-surgical co-management of refractive surgery patients enrolled in WRESP-RC surgery programs within established institutional policies and procedures, ensuring that all necessary steps are followed for safety and regulatory compliance and for assuring accuracy of complex clinical documentation on patients' records, maintaining confidentiality.
The primary mission of the WRESP-RC is to provide refractive surgery to our nation's warfighters so that they might perform their duties on the battlefield without the need for spectacle correction. One of the unique features of the WRESP is that it is not necessarily a "medical" program but a "medical readiness" program. The secondary mission is to critically investigate military aspects of refractive surgery in order to improve the visual function of America's warfighters on the modern battlefield.
WRESP-RC serves as a research center for refractive surgery in the U.S. Army and DOD. Studies focus on a comprehensive evaluation of safety, efficacy, and visual performance after laser refractive surgery with particular regard to aspects of military importance.
