We are looking for a full-time editorial assistant to support the co-publishers of Balzer + Bray, a new children's book imprint. The ideal candidate is passionate about children's and YA literature and is able to efficiently manage a diverse set of responsibilities. Main responsibilities will be to manage administrative tasks and provide editorial support.

What you'll do:

  • Maintain publication schedules and departmental databases, and otherwise track the publication process for approximately 24-28 titles per year
  • Communicate with authors and agents throughout the publication process, as well as act as an interdepartmental liaison
  • Log agented submissions for the department, evaluate manuscripts, write reader reports, and send rejection letters
  • Draft contract and check requests, generate sales reports and editorial P&Ls, and track payments and invoices
  • Write flap copy, title information sheets, and catalog copy
  • Basic administrative support, including coordinating meeting schedules, keeping track of upcoming deadlines, processing expenses, shipping packages, making travel arrangements, etc.

What you'll bring:

  • Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and exceptional time management
  • A genuine interest in children's and YA publishing across a range of genres, formats, and age categories, including picture books, fiction, and graphic novels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to prioritize, set and meet deadlines, and work independently
  • Proven ability to adapt to an increasingly digital work environment

Ideal Experience:

  • Entry level role. Previous book publishing or bookselling experience/internships a plus but not required.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equal experience

This role will have an annual salary of $47.5k.
