Summary:

The Fire Watch Patrol position is a safety professional that is key to the overall safety of the facility by protecting people and assets. They are responsible for continuously observing hot work activity for the detection of, and response to, fires before, during, and after hot work operations both on vessels and shore. The Fire Watch Patrol must be vigilant, responsive, and able to perform under pressure. This position reports to the Environmental Health and Safety department.

Essential functions (responsibilities, tasks, supervisory needs)

  • Inspect the entire work area to look for the presence of flammable and combustible items, liquids, or gases before, during, and at the end of each shift.
  • Monitor surveillance equipment, learn and understand vessel alarm systems and facility alarm systems.
  • Communicate and review previous hot work completed for the day with vessel Night Watch during in-port seasons.
  • Understand how and when to operate fire-extinguishing equipment, and how and when alert the First Responders in the event of a fire.
  • Follow conditions and requirements specified on the Marine Chemist certificate and Hot Work safety permit.
  • Develop detailed activities reports pertaining to shift activities, communicating via written communication as well as verbal communication with key stakeholders.
  • Think clearly and logically, remain calm, use good judgment, and make rapid and logical decisions in emergencies. Acquires knowledge of Trident's Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions.
  • Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings.
  • Stay onsite until formally relieved of duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Must be able to work as a team member and clearly communicate to individuals and large groups.
  • Knowledge of hand-held radio communication.
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays or other shifts as required.
  • Must have reliable access to transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current CPR/First Aid certificate is preferred, or ability to obtain CPR certification within 30 days of employment

Work environment (includes travel/on-call):

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

This is a nonexempt position with an hourly rate of $24.00
