Student and Campus Life (SCL) inspires transformation in all Cornell students on their journey of individual, academic and personal evolution. Our division is comprised of leading student affairs experts who support our campus on pressing student life matters including public service, health, wellness, social justice, residential living, food services, sports, recreation, career services, and student activities and organizations including sorority and fraternity life. We provide support and services to roughly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on multiple campuses in the U.S. and abroad.

As a part of the SCL Office of the Vice President's unit, the SCL Facilities team supports the student campus experience, by ensuring safe, clean, and operational spaces for students to live, learn, eat, recreate, connect, and engage with each other. With this mission in mind, the team is focused on helping our customers and end-users navigate critical decisions regarding the use and maintenance of their space. They do this through analyzing risks and associated costs, exploring additional services that add value, considering safety and security factors, and ensuring business continuity. Members of this group are passionate about customer service, assess small decisions that can have large impacts, and seamlessly integrate people and physical space. This team is literally the "foundation" upon which the student experience here at Cornell is built.

The Facilities team along with Housing & Residential Life are looking to assemble a team of Room Condition Inspectors.The Room Condition Inspector team will assist Housing & Residential Life and Student and Campus Life Facilities by inspecting and documenting the condition of student rooms at the completion of the Spring term.This is a short-term employment period of May 20th, 2024-June 7th, 2024 (with possible extension if there is necessary work).Individual Inspectors will use a developed app to input information that will generate necessary service requests for maintenance and/or repairs (iPad or similar device will be provided). Training and work coordination will be provided by a facilities manager.


Job Duties:

  • Perform visual inspections and assess room conditions in university residence halls.
  • Document and report needed facilities maintenance and/or repairs.

Pay Rate: $15.00- $16.75/hour

Required Qualifications:

  • Consistent attention to detail.
  • Must be able to commit to three weeks of continuous employment (May 20th, 2024 - June 7th, 2024).
  • Ability to work between the hours of 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday, no less than a 3-hour period at a time.Not to exceed a maximum of 30 hours/week.
  • Must be reliable.
  • Ability to walk continuously and be on feet for up to 8 hours a day.
  • Ability to attend assessment training on first day of work (May 20th, 2024).
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
