Job Description

NOTE: This role requires travel of at least 50% of the time, and this is often overnight travel.

The Government Affairs Specialist, working under supervision, is responsible for researching, developing and implementing strategies for legislative, regulatory and policy advocacy. The role manages programs and provides policy direction to ensure awareness of applicable legislation/proposed regulations within the company. The role manages and coordinates external government advocacy efforts for favorable governmental policies and regulations, outreach programs, and initiatives in concert with business and thought leadership objectives.


  • Identifies, establishes, and maintains relationships with private sector peers at other carriers and trade associations that are essential to carrying out this role's function.
  • Manages programs and provides policy direction to ensure awareness of applicable legislation/proposed regulations and develops and implements strategies for legislative, regulatory and policy advocacy.
  • Manages and coordinates external government advocacy efforts for favorable governmental policies and regulations, outreach programs, and initiatives in concert with business and thought leadership objectives.
  • Advises other members of the organization and provides strategic direction to leadership as it relates to government relations and works with business units planning and communicating industry and legislative items of importance to the industry.
  • Reviews new bill introductions for potential company impact and enterprise risk to operations and coordinates analysis with other company departments to develop company positions on pending legislation and regulation.
  • Identifies, establishes, and maintains relationships with key government and regulatory officials that are critical to the growth of the company's business.
  • Maintains current knowledge of local, state, and federal political process and structure, the state and federal legislative system, and operation of local, state, and applicable federal regulatory agencies.
  • Manages annual budget projections for assigned venues and functions and prepares and files ethics and lobbying reports as required by law.

  • 7+ years of experience in Government Affairs, Government Relations, or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, Communications and/or commensurate experience. Master's degree in related field is preferred.
