Position Highlights

This position is responsible for performing serological, bacteriological, biochemical, hematological and microbiological laboratory examinations and tests for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease under the supervision of the Chief Medical Technologist.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Performs a variety of determinations on different body fluids; confirms and verifies test results and reports findings to clinicians.
  • Determines which products and techniques to use, ensuring they are the most modern and cost effective procedures.
  • Performs and reviews quality controls on testing and decides if results are within acceptable ranges; research problems and corrects.
  • Inventories and requisitions laboratory supplies.
  • Provides technical support to other Medical Technologists and CHS clinicians through recommendations of appropriate therapy or diagnostic procedures.
  • Operates, calibrates and conducts performance checks on clinical laboratory equipment.
  • Provides patient instructions on the collection of various swabs, urine, and stool.
  • Performs phlebotomy as needed
  • Advises CHS clinicians and other health care providers on proper method of collecting specimens.
  • Coordinates the activities of subordinates.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of advanced medical laboratory work.
  • Skill in prioritizing and coordinating section activities in relationship to departmental functions.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and office products.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Technology; OR, four years of experience as a Medical Technologis/Medical Laboratory Technician AND 1 year of relevant work experience; OR,
  • Associate's Degree from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program AND two years of experience as a Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Technician.
  • OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources
  • Certification/registration as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician (Medical Technologist cert eligible).
