Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the General Accounting Supervisor 2 performs a key lead role in Accounting and Financial Reporting (A&FR). This position leads the Capital Asset Accounting and Fiscal Controls teams. Overseeing day to day management of campus-wide financial accounting and reporting, including the Medical Center and Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Monitors unit efficiency and reviews and implements policy and business process improvements.

This position will work independently on complicated, multi-faceted issues, and requires a high degree of initiative and autonomy, expert skills and knowledge in finance and accounting principles, and highly advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities. This position will utilize strong technical skills and knowledge of systems, databases, excel, and the analysis of data therein as well as possess a strong knowledge of GAAP, UCOP financial systems, GASB and FASB implementations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Five years of finance experience within higher education or related setting.
  • Experience using Excel to interpret large complex data sets, reporting tools and/or equivalent applications to develop complex spreadsheets and ad hoc reports including the use of pivot tables and other functions to provide analysis.
  • Experience applying/interpreting laws, regulations and guidelines (FASB, GASB, audit guides, NACUBO and WACUBO guidelines, State Budget Act, external regulations).

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), theory, practice, and standards as they relate to the general ledger maintenance and financial statement preparation.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including leading by example, inspiring employees to excel in process execution and service delivery, and rewarding and recognizing employee performance.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Experience working in a Higher Education Finance department. UC preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Financials.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Interpersonal and communication skills and the skill to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
