Case Western Reserve University Department of Physics seeks a candidate possessing an outstanding record of effectiveness in physics teaching and pedagogy at the college level for an appointment to the position ofInstructor.The successful candidate will serve in two distinct but connected roles within the department: (1) as Assistant Director for Introductory Laboratories and (2) as course instructor. The successful candidate will divide time equally between these two major responsibilities as follows:

In the first role, the candidate will serve under the supervision of the Director of Introductory Laboratories to provide pedagogical, instructional, technical, organizational, and logistical support to the instructional laboratories for Mechanics and Electricity/Magnetism that are a major component of introductory physics courses offered to undergraduate students in STEM degree programs. The Physics Introductory Labs at CWRU serve approximately 1000 students per semester, with students working in pairs in sections of 16 students each led by graduate student teaching assistants. In the position ofAssociate Director for Intro Labs, the candidate would directly supervise and train graduate section leaders and undergraduate technical assistants, establish and monitor grading standards, assess and improve materials, and help to maintain and upgrade the operations of the lab.

In the second role, the successful candidate will serve as course instructor for one course per semester in the physics department, taking on all regular responsibilities for planning, teaching and grading the course. There is no teaching expected during the summer. Course assignments will be determined in consultation with the department chair to best match the experience and interests of the candidate.
