Position Summary:The Mine Engineer plays a crucial role in maintaining accurate quarry planning by updating pit and dump topography on a monthly basis. This position involves conducting volume surveys in active mining areas and ore stockpiles, tracking quality control data to define ore zone contact limits, and recording blast pattern layouts. Collaborating with the quarry department, the Mine Surveyor contributes to short-term mine planning to ensure operations stay within budget targets and align with long-term plans.

Responsibilities & Expectations:

Volume Surveys:

  • Conduct monthly volume surveys in all active pits and ore stockpiles for accurate volume and ore reconciliation.

  • Reconcile volumes with truck factors for both monthly and year-to-date tracking purposes.

  • Regularly update pit and dump topography to enhance short-term planning accuracy.

Mine Surveys:

  • Survey and track quality control data to define ore zone contact limits within the pit, aiming to improve ore recovery.

  • Record blast pattern layouts, maintaining detailed AutoCAD records for future reference and adjacent pattern layout.

  • Perform daily survey elevation grade checks at pits and dumps to enhance mining accuracy.

  • Assist in laying out pit designs and project work to optimize ore recovery.

Planning:

  • Develop short-term mining plans to align with budget targets and the long-term plan.

  • Support the creation of weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual mine and waste storage plans.

Backup Supervisor:

  • Act as a backup supervisor for the quarry team as needed.

Attributes:

  • Proficiency in CAD-based computer software or a strong aptitude for learning.

  • Familiarity with GPS survey equipment or a willingness to learn.

  • Physical capability to walk on uneven surfaces and access all plant and quarry locations.

  • Ability to work outdoors in severe weather conditions.

  • Availability to be on call and work different shifts, including weekends.

Physical Demands (Include, but not limited to):

  • Physically able to perform assigned tasks.

  • Capable of accessing all plant locations, including heights up to 150 feet, confined spaces, ladders, stairs, and tunnels.

  • Exposure to extreme heat and cold, noise, vibration, oils, and atmospheric conditions (dust, fumes, and lime/mineral particles).

  • Required actions include standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing, and sitting.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mine Engineering or equivalent relevant education and experience.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of up to three (3) years' experience in surface mining, preferably in the lime or cement industry.
