Job Description and Duties

Position is located at: Pleasant Valley State Prison 24863 W. Jayne Ave. Coalinga, Ca 93210

Under the close supervision of the Staff Services Manager I, the Mechanical and Technical Occupational Trainee (MTOT) will perform a variety of clerical duties, providing administrative support and excellent customer service to a wide variety of people in a team environment. Provides assistance to the HR office by receiving and screening visitors, answering incoming phone calls, greeting customers, answering various questions and/or referring sutomers to the appropriate person or team. Processing incoming and outgoing mail by categorizing, date stamping, and routing materials to appropriate staff. Managing group email boxes and disseminates and/or responds to inquires. Maintains office documents such as handbooks, assignment roster, phone lists, seating charts, evacuation rosters, etc. Performs miscellaneous clerical functions such as photocopying, scanning, filing courier service, facsimilie, etc. Utilizes software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite or Adobe Suite to compose, edit, redact, documents and files. Checks fax machines within office; deliver fax documents to appropriate personnel staff.

This a non-testing classification, therefore, anyone meeting the minimum qualifications listed on the classification specifications may apply for this position. Working Conditions

This position works a maximum of 130 hours per month or 1500 hours per year.

Regular and consistent attendance is critical to the successful performance of this position. Must be regularly available and willing to work the hours necessary to meet the business needs.

Mechanical and Technical Occupational Trainee is a non-testing temporary appointment class. It is designed to provide persons an opportunity to develop skills which will facilitate their permanent entry to state service.

Special Requirements

2. Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If it is determined a candidate does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

3. Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by departmental annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

  • Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving state public assistance under the CalWorks Program.
  • Applicants who receive state public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWorks receipient in the comments area on the application.
  • Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWorks showing TANF eligibility of their last aid check stub. If verification is not submitted with application, the application will not be processed. (Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWorks Program.)
