Job Description

Firetrace, a subsidiary of Halma plc, and a global manufacturer of life-saving fire suppression devices, has an immediate need for a Business Development Manager—Wind Segment. This position can be remote – achieved from anywhere in North America.   

The BDM will be an essential contributor to the success of the Wind segment, currently targeted to be the highest growth segment at Firetrace. This position is responsible for refining and executing sales strategy for end users in the global wind market. Growth to be achieved by initiating and developing end user relationships, and to support pull through opportunities with OEM’s.

Goals and Objectives

Achieve annual gross margin, revenue, and order intake targets with assigned customers and developed prospects in designated sub-segments within Wind Segment. Contribute to segment achievement of overall gross margin, revenue and intake targets.  Participate in the development of new business opportunities using the stage-gate process.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Grow end user business through prospecting efforts, account development initiatives, in conjunction with OEM sourced leads, and via strategic marketing and marcomm lead generation efforts.

                    - Initiate a full spectrum process to effectively assess, filter, then convert qualified incoming end user leads into sales.

  • Manage all existing end user relationships to ensure Firetrace is supplier of choice for all current and future projects.
  • Engage local distribution channels as needed to support end users requiring local installation, service, etc, support.
  • Develop technical and application understanding of core needs of customers.
  • Close collaboration with internal segment partners to ensure optimum levels of customer support (i.e. segment engineering, operations, customer service, etc.)
  • Close collaboration with Product Management to identify, assess and launch new products offering opportunities in designated sub segments.
  • Close collaboration with strategic marketing and marcomm to ensure all messaging is appropriate (i.e. press releases, article generation, blog generation, tradeshow participation, podcasts, website, social media, etc).


  • Business Development experience with proven track record of closing high value deals ($500K+) sold within a lengthy and complex sales cycle.
  • Experience selling technical/engineered solutions.
  • Marketing experience strongly preferred.
  • Wind industry experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal and partnering skill sets – thrive in a team environment
  • Expert analytical, written and verbal communication skills
