Job Description

Do you want to be part of an innovative, customer-focused Engineering team inside a global company?  Firetrace, a subsidiary of Halma plc, and a global manufacturer of life-saving fire suppression devices, has an immediate need for an Applications Engineer. At Firetrace International (www.firetrace.com) our purpose is “we protect lives and livelihoods by eliminating the impact of fire”. You can make a significant difference in helping us attain our purpose.  Our values are that “we advocate for each other”, “we do the right thing, even when no one is watching”, “we own the outcome, not the task”, and “we harness curiosity to improve every day”.  If you model these values, we would love for you to be a valued team member in our journey.

Firetrace is part of Halma plc (www.halma.com), a group of companies whose purpose is “to grow a safer, cleaner, healthier future for everyone, every day.”  Halma plc was named Britain's Most Admired Company in 2020, providing innovative solutions to many of the key problems facing the world today.  Firetrace is a growing niche fire suppression OEM that has been a part of Halma plc (LSE: HLMA) since 2015.

At Firetrace, an Applications Engineer partners with the marketing and sales teams to design fire suppression systems in accordance to relevant standards and required approvals.  In addition to working with existing products, the Applications Engineer identifies new applications and product needs to fill voids in the existing product line.  This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering position with a customer focus and a passion for solving problems.  Be part of a growing cross-functional engineering team.  We want to challenge our own assumptions and the assumptions of the entire fire industry.  This means that new opportunities are as likely to be outside our current expertise as within.

Responsibilities
This role will report to the Firetrace Engineering Manager.  You will be part of a growing engineering team that is implementing new processes to allow the organization to rapidly grow while maintaining good engineering practices.  In addition to supporting engineering initiatives, this role will be part of a Market Segment Team.  This cross functional team will focus on a specific market and adjacent markets to uncover new opportunities.   The Application Engineer responsibility on this team is to be the technical product expert, to participate in developing segment strategy and to work in the team environment to grow the business.  This role is more than an engineering role, it is customer focused and results driven as well.  You will specifically be expected to:

  • Discover opportunities to grow our business by solving problems for our customers; work closely with our marketing and sales team to design and deliver products and services around these opportunities
  • Navigate approvals and standards, be able to relate products and systems to 3rd party accreditation and work with the agencies on developing Firetrace systems in these areas
  • Take ambiguous customer requirements and develop a specification and product solution fit for purpose.
  • Become the technical expert for products used in your segment.
  • Lead selected projects to develop the business case to release new products.
  • Work multiple projects simultaneously while focusing on the projects that are highest on the corporate priority list.
  • Create and develop technical documentation such as Design Guides, DIOMs and engineering drawings
  • Create BOMs and quotations based on customer requirements.
  • Work with Product Management on sustaining engineering and life cycle activities required for the segment.
  • Display Firetrace’s values and behaviors in all interactions with customers and coworkers.
Experience, Skills, and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • 3-D CAD modeling and drawing experience, Solidworks desired
  • 3+ years of professional experience in a technical capacity, involving systems configurations, internal testing and product design
  • Ability to lead cross-functional project teams
  • Proven experience completing projects that deliver results
  • Comfortable presenting ideas to peers, management, and company board members
  • Ability to form good working relationships with customers
  • Detail oriented, with strong oral/written communication skills
  • Relationship building with diverse groups of people at all levels of the organization
Location
  • This role is based in Scottsdale, Arizona
  • Relocation assistance will be provided, with local candidates preferred
