Job Description
Firetrace is a $40M revenue business that designs and assembles fire suppression systems in our 50,000 sq. ft. HQ facility in Scottsdale, Arizona.  Currently the business employs 100 people; all functions are based in Scottdale, except for the sales team, which is spread throughout North America, Europe, the Middle East, India, Africa and Southeast Asia.  Firetrace has been part of Halma plc (LSE: HLMA) since 2015 and has ambitious growth plans. 
 
The growth of the business has enhanced the need for a strong Shipping Lead to join the organization and influence implementation of best practices that drive organizational performance, and provide day to day leadership and guidance to shipping and receiving team. As the expert in preparing items for shipment ensuring cost effective routing and compliance to Hazardous shipment regulations, you will work alongside shipping and receiving personnel providing mentoring and guidance.  As the functional leader, collect and analyze data to establish KPI’s that ensure value for the customer.  Work cooperatively with Customer Service, Planning, Production, etc. to create and publish the daily shipping schedule. Follow established policies, procedures, and objectives, and focus on delivering continuous quality improvement objectives.
 
Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
  • Maintains current certification in IATA Dangerous Goods shipping, and DOT Hazardous Materials Shipping
  • Prepares shipments and determines most economical and efficient shipping method; selects appropriate shipping container; packs items to ensure safe delivery.
  • Build relationships with customers, freight forwarders and carriers as needed to set up complex domestic and international shipments via ground, air, ocean and multi-modal shipments from single package / single pallet to full trailer or container sizes and above.
  • Prepares bills of lading; checks items to be shipped against work orders to ascertain that quantities, destination, and routing are correct. Creates legible and accurate paperwork.
  • Maintain department database, prepare routine reports, and file shipping/receiving records.
  • Tracks spending on outgoing freight.
  • Verifies materials received are as ordered and routes incoming items to appropriate departments/locations.
  • Receives and unloads incoming materials and compares information on packing slip with purchase order to verify accuracy of shipment; may process return shipments from customers.
  • Guides, and trains employees performing related work.
  • Always Maintains Safety and Quality Standards.
Job Specifications (skills and experience):
  • Proven history of handling complex domestic and international shipping/receiving challenges
  • 5 years HAZMAT experience preferred
  • Export Compliance experience a plus
  • Strong understanding of ERP systems (preferably Microsoft Dynamics), Microsoft Office products, Hazardous Materials Regulations, and Leadership Principles.
  • Proven ability to affect change, push continuous improvement, meet deadlines and teamwork with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Must be detail oriented, even with multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, or sit for long periods; periodic lifting of up to 50 lbs. safely.
  • Must be able to become forklift certified.
  • Ability to operate dolly, pallet jack, and/or forklift in loading and unloading supplies and equipment such as a pallet shrink-wrap machine.
