Job Description

TECHNICAL WRITER INTERN
Part-time during the school semester and full-time during the summer.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • The Maintenance Department is looking for detail oriented, college interns to serve as technical writers: taking complicated, technical terminology and translating it into plain language.
  • Develop Preventative Maintenance procedures and other technical documents.
  • The tasks involve research on process systems and equipment, interviewing maintenance technicians, and reviewing prints and manufacturer equipment manuals to produce a user-friendly document that includes photos, flow charts, line drawings, or other illustrations to enhance or clarify the action steps defined in the procedures.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Student needs to be enrolled as a full-time student and maintain at least a 2.75 GPA. Preferred majors: Electrical Mechanical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Requires expert user of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and AutoCAD, Visio or other drawing packages. Ability to use graphics effectively to communicate ideas.
  • Good technical writing skills (clear and concise).
  • Requires excellent written/verbal communication and time management skills. Good interviewing and listening skills. Consistently accurate and demonstrates attention to detail
  • Employment offers are contingent upon the successful completion of Carpenter's pre-employment physical, which includes a background check, health screening and drug screen.
